We are developing proposals for a remote holiday home 1° south of the Arctic Circle, in the far north of Sweden. An existing traditional timber house sits on the site, which will be renovated and extended. Working closely with the landscape, the crisp, clear arctic light and textures of the forest defines the design to create an elegant and powerful addition to the building.
Through building partly into the landscape the extension will be hidden from view upon approach to the site, so that all that can be seen from a distance is the vernacular building in the landscape and the changes only reveal themselves as you step closer. Sustainable and ecological design is an integral part of standard building in Sweden.
