People and planet are intertwined
Working with you
Our projects are about the interaction of people, place and the natural environment, creating spaces that inspire and delight. We are an award wining, multi disciplinary architecture practice that blends design led work, construction quality and environmental responsibility.
We work closely with our Clients to tailor our service and design solutions to your priorities including budget and timescales, giving you the best of our expertise and experience to suit your project.
We are a small team that makes a big impact, leading the field in Scotland in environmental and passivhaus design, collaborating with clients in our own backyard and on global projects.
What we do
Architecture
We design buildings for you which are a joy to live, play, learn and work within. They are comfortable, use very little energy to run and are made from materials which are kind to people and planet.
We work with you from when the project is the kernel of an idea in your mind, right through to when you move in. Alternatively, we can hand over to you earlier in the process if you choose to manage the construction stage yourselves.
Training
Part of building a better construction industry is sharing expertise and upskilling our team and others across the industry. We develop and deliver training in low carbon, energy efficient and zero carbon building design and construction locally and worldwide.
Consultancy
As well as delivering buildings from start to finish, we also support other architects and design teams by providing Passivhaus and sustainable design consultancy. This works in partnership with the design team for each project.
Research
We lead the field in building performance and environmental design by balancing depth of experience and practical innovation. This happens because our work is rooted in applied research and driven by a passion to improve quality and performance of buildings alongside a desire to be learning, collaborating and delivering the best solutions for every project.
Projects
We work on projects across Scotland and as far away as sub-Antarctica. Our projects include homes, schools, offices, exhibition and arts buildings, sports facilities, visitor centres and emergency shelters. All are underpinned by commitment to comfort and low environmental impact.
Eco design is at the centre of all our projects.
Different projects have differing priorities and opportunities. Identifying these is part of the early stages of any project.
There are many facets to this: enhancing the lived experience of the building, for example linking to the surrounding landscape and working with changing light daily and annually as part of the building design, and on a technical basis, working with both proven and innovative solutions of the building fabric to reduce energy demand and carbon impact and enhance occupant comfort. Energy can then be affordably provided using renewable energy technologies where appropriate.
The climate emergency impacts us all, and we work with you to ensure your environmental impact is minimised.
Collaboration underpins the design process.
Our collaborators include clients, artists, other architects and the design team. Our role varies from leading the project from start to finish to providing specialist consultancy on a specific element of work. Collaboration brings out the best in any project.
Why Passivhaus?
Passivhaus is the world’s best practice quality, comfort and energy efficiency building standard. Is is one part of the wider eco design picture. The tools allow the design team and our clients to make informed choices to optimise the design to balance energy performance and cost. We integrate this level of design care, build quality, comfort and energy efficiency into all our projects as standard.
Who we are
