Join Our Team

updated 15th January 2024

We are not currently actively recruiting, but we welcome CVs from interested candidates.

If you join us, you will be working with a small, close-knit team and you will have an active input into helping shape the practice as it develops further.

Who we are

We are a small, friendly and supportive team who share a passion for environmental and socially responsible design. We specialise in low energy, eco and high performance design. We are one of the most experienced practices in Scotland working in Passivhaus, leading the field in this area in Scotland and around the world since the practice was founded in 2011. We continue to combine all the facets of good architecture and the rigour that brings, sharing our expertise through teaching and continue to develop our own expertise as the sector grows.. This is particularly exciting as Scotland embraces Passivhaus in the upcoming legislative changes.

We work with new build and retrofit, with projects across Scotland and some internationally. Any new team member must share our enthusiasm for responsible design, with an interest in and/or knowledge of passivhaus and good quality design being essential. Training will be provided where required for Passivhaus.

Projects are varied in scale and geographical range. Our core work is in housing and education – from one off high quality passivhaus homes, schools and education facilities and as far afield as a science visualisation gallery space in sub-Antarctica. Our work includes undertaking full architectural services and we provide specialist passivhaus consultancy to other design teams. We are an active member of the friendly UK community of eco and passivhaus designers and are part of a team who train others in passivhaus and low energy design in the UK and further afield.

We offer a 4 day, 4.5 day or 5 day week. You will be working partly from home and partly office based with site visits as required.

You will:

  • Share our ethos and approach to environmental design
  • Be passionate about passivhaus, eco and low energy design. Additional qualifications in this area are a bonus but we will provide training if required
  • Have experience working at all project stages including production information and construction (extent of experience will depend on which role you are applying for)
  • Have a good working knowledge of planning and building regulations
  • Have excellent attention to detail – in administration, drawing and the detail of designs
  • Be keen to get involved in Passivhaus modelling and specification of low impact materials
  • Be keen to support and deliver practice administration and development
  • Have excellent time management and organisation including project programming and resource management
  • Be inquisitive, collaborative and enjoy exploring ideas to find solutions to design challenges
  • Enjoy ongoing learning – formally or informally – as part of your career development within the practice
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English
  • Be fluent in AutoCAD Lt and Microsoft Office
  • Your knowledge of Sketch-up and/or 3D rendering and/or DesignPH & PHPP would be a benefit although training will be provided if necessary
  • Enjoy working as an integral part of our team
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK
  • We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds
